Here are some of the types of windows you can use on your house;

Picture Windows

These types of windows are perfect for your house if you want to enjoy the outside view of your compound while inside the house.

Having a picture window on your house will create that indoor/outdoor feeling as the windows are usually large.

Transom Windows

For a room, let’s say a sitting room or bedroom that does not have many windows, Transom windows will come in handy. They are usually added on top of a window or door so that they can bring light into the room.

Transom Windows come in different shapes and size – and they can be opened or closed to enable air to flow in.

Bay/Bow Window

These types of windows – normally placed on exterior walls – add more space to a room as they are usually projected outwards. They can be combined with a variety of window types.

The only disadvantage of Bay/Bow windows is the cost – they are usually large which might be expensive.

You probably have seen this type of windows on many occasions as they are common. Single/Double Hung Windows have two window sashes – one on top of the other. Both sashes can open for the double-hung window.

Some of the advantages of having these type of windows on your house are that they offer good ventilation, are easy to clean from inside the house and are able to trap warmth in the house – keeping out cold.

Sky Light Windows

It is rare to find Sky light windows on houses even though they have many advantages light ability to bring in light and air through the roof – where they are installed.

The window is also long-lasting and can also be used as emergency exit windows. If you are interested in Sky light windows, all you will need to do is to ensure they are well installed so as to prevent leakage. It is also advised that you treat the windows so as to keep away UV rays that can be harmful.

Sliding/Gliding Windows

As the name suggests, these are the windows which are opened by sliding or gliding. They are usually easy to operate (they slide horizontally along a pane) and don’t break easily.

Apart from needing regular oiling and cleaning of the panes to maintain smooth slide, sliding/gliding windows are long-lasting. They are also safe – especially in areas where there is a lot of moment – since they do not open outward or inward.

However, if you’re looking to have a well-ventilated house, Sliding /Gliding windows are not the best.

Casement Windows

Casement windows are very common – they are usually installed on one side and open outward from the side.

Some of their advantages include: providing good ventilation for the house and are well insulated – if installed well.

To bring out the best interior design, taste and preference for your house, you can always use different window types on different rooms – not necessarily limiting yourself to one type.
