COMMON POULTRY DISEASES IN KENYA AND THEIR TREATMENT.

Coccidiosis, Newcastle, Fowl pox and Infectious Coryza are the most common poultry diseases that affect poultry birds in Kenya. 1. Coccidiosis Coccidiosis is a poultry disease that is very common in poultry birds. This disease is caused by intracellular protozoan parasites known as Coccidia. In Poultry, Coccidiosis is transmitted through the droppings from infected chicken. Coccidia, attaches itself in the poultry’s intestinal lining preventing the bird from absorbing food nutrients into their body system. Incubation period of the disease is between 4-8 days. Symptoms of Coccidiosis. The most common symptom of Coccidiosis is presence of mucus or blood in chicken’s droppings. Blood located at the vent site of the bird Pale skin. Ruffled feathers.
