Uasin Gishu rolls out land records digitization program

The County Government of Uasin Gishu through the Department of Lands, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban Development in conjunction with other stakeholders is undertaking a program to ensure that Land records are digitized.

This is in a bid to enhance residents' confidence in Government systems with more programs ongoing among them; the Sustainable Urban Economic Development plans, Kenya Informal Settlements Programs, and Kenya Urban Support Programs.

Uasin Gishu County has been chosen as the headquarters for the other 6 counties in the digitization program.

The department will set up a GIS lab and work with the Survey team to ensure that what is captured in the system is a true reflection of the ground as this will reduce fraud cases in land matters.

President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the National Lands Information Management System (NLIMS) and rolled out the digitization on April 27, 2021, to ease property registration and introduce transparency in land administration and management.

Lands Cabinet Secretary Farida Karoney had earlier this year said the digitization of records in Nairobi will be completed in June 2022, and the entire country by the end of 2024.

“Full digitization of land records will go a long way in eliminating land grabbing. We started the process to fight land grabbing, a vice we have had for 60 years,” said Karoney.
