Land Management Committee Asked To Ensure Clear Records of Land Ownership in Uasin Gishu

Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno has challenged the recently formed Land Management Committee in the county to come up with strategies that will help provide solutions to land injustices as well as clear records of land ownership.

The committee was formed in an attempt by the county to help streamline and provide input towards best land management practices.

“This committee is charged with the provision of a trusted judgment of land ownership processes without favor so that every land record that goes through the committee earns the public trust. I believe this is an able team to bring change even as regularization and new allotments are done,” Chemno said while speaking during a meeting with the committee members.

Agriculture County Executive Committee Member Samuel Yego expressed optimism that with the setting up of the committee, it was the first step towards preserving land as a resource to ensure proper utilization – in relation to food production.

"Agricultural land must be preserved and protected to ensure that food production is not interfered with. Recreational, urban, and trading centers are also key concerns in the management of land," said Yego.

On his part, CECM Lands and Housing Eng. Nelson Maritim, welcomed the move by the National Government to bring in the Ardhi Sasa system.

He said the system will also, provide data of the land especially on land rates and transactions that have been carried out in the land.

"We have a strategic plan in the department which will also serve to guide the committee on prioritization of parcels for land tenure and titling. Records need to be updated regularly and given safeguards to ensure that we can trace the records even years to come later," said Eng Maritim

Physical Planning and Urban Development Chief officer Kenneth Mbeka presented the land use plans, with specifications on residential, industrial, education, recreational, public, and commercial and transportation.

How Women Can Protect Their Property Rights After Marriage

They say property has no gender, but history shows a different reality, where property ownership has favoured men. This inequality is still evident, especially when it comes to inheritance after the death of a spouse.  Even though Kenya’s 2010 Constitution guarantees equal rights for men and women, many women still struggle to secure their rights to property. So, how can women make sure their rights are respected after marriage? Baoriat Agencies explains six key ways to ensure fair property distribution in case of death or separation. 1. Registering Jointly Owned Property  When a couple buys property together, it’s important to register it under both names. This guarantees that the other automatically inherits the property if one partner dies. Make sure both names are clearly listed on the title deed as co-owners. 2. Joint Tenancy or Tenancy-in-Common There are two ways to share property: Joint tenancy : If one partner dies, the other automatically becomes the sole owner. Tena...
