The County Government of Uasin Gishu has announced an extension of the 100 per cent waiver on land rates penalties for a further 15 days.

Governor Jackson Mandago had issued a 30-day extension to individuals who would have paid their rates by June 30, 2021, and land owners now have another 15 days to clear their bills, and benefit from their waiver

While announcing the extension on Thursday, Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said the move was as a result of a request from locals who asked for more time to pay the rates.

He also said clean up exercise on the land rates system to capture newly acquired pieces of land, and those subdivided had also necessitated the extension.

"We have had challenges on people who recently bought land and their records were not yet in our system. We also had a cleanup exercise that was meant to ensure all subdivided land is captured into the system hence need for more time," noted Chemno.

The Deputy County boss further admitted that the lands system had severally encountered  technical challenges which lead to it not operating optimally, slowing own processing of land rates.

"We have found it necessary to extend to midnight July 15, 2021, and there will be no further extension," Chemno said.

County Executive Member in charge of Lands and Physical Planning Eng. Nelson Maritim said as a result of system cleaning and update of the records, they have been able to register over 100 new plot owners across the county.

"Most of the  land had been subdivide and mother title was still in our system but after the clean up, we now know which land has been subdivided," said Eng Maritim.

Finance and Economic Planning CECM CPA Julius Rutto on his part asked land owners in the county to always pay their land rates, a move he said was once of the proofs that they are the real owners of the land.

"If you are to register a new parcel of land, this is the right time," said CPA Rutto.

"It is to your advantage to pay land rates and register your land, it is part of proof for ownership of land," he added.
