Easy Way to Make Huge Profits from Leased Land

Farming as a business is quite big and the beauty of it is that – all profits, at times, are abnormal.

Assuming you don’t have land, for now, we would encourage you to lease for a start. A lease is an agreement that permits you to use a piece of land owned by someone else at a certain period of time in exchange for a fee.

Leasing of land in Kenya, more so in Uasin Gishu, is quite affordable. It can range to as high as Sh50,000 but standard price is usually around Sh10,000, depending on the location of the land.

If you’re still not sure whether leasing land for agricultural purposes in Uasin Gishu is profitable – rethink your position.

Lease just an acre and then plant garlic – ‘Kutunguu Saumu’, you will make an abnormal profit. Here is a quick estate of costs and profits;

-          Leasing - 50,000

-          Seeds- 120,000 (200kgs)

-          Water - 100,000

-          Labour - 30,000

-          Manure - 10,000

-          Fertilizer - 20,000

-          Foliar- 15,000

-          Chemicals - 30,000 (including selective herbicides to save on weeding)

-          Management - 60,000

Total - 435,000

You expect to harvest your garlic after 4½ months which will be around 8,000kgs. Give the harvested garlic a month to dry (curing) and another month to sell – making it a total of about 6 months from planting your garlic to when it is ready for sell.

The minimum market price for Garlic is Sh150 per kilogram:

8,000kgsxSh150 = Sh1.2 million

Quick math indicates that you are likely to make a profit of over Sh0.7 million from leasing just an acre of land to plant garlic.

Sh1, 200,000 (what you get from selling garlic) – 435,000 (cost of production) = 765,000 (profit).

Plant again for a second time and you will be guaranteed more profit as the costs would have reduced down.

PS: The above-listed figures for expenses and profits are based on estimates and previous projects. Things on the ground might be a little bit different.

How Women Can Protect Their Property Rights After Marriage

They say property has no gender, but history shows a different reality, where property ownership has favoured men. This inequality is still evident, especially when it comes to inheritance after the death of a spouse.  Even though Kenya’s 2010 Constitution guarantees equal rights for men and women, many women still struggle to secure their rights to property. So, how can women make sure their rights are respected after marriage? Baoriat Agencies explains six key ways to ensure fair property distribution in case of death or separation. 1. Registering Jointly Owned Property  When a couple buys property together, it’s important to register it under both names. This guarantees that the other automatically inherits the property if one partner dies. Make sure both names are clearly listed on the title deed as co-owners. 2. Joint Tenancy or Tenancy-in-Common There are two ways to share property: Joint tenancy : If one partner dies, the other automatically becomes the sole owner. Tena...
