Crafting of New Development Plan for Eldoret Municipality in Progress

The Eldoret Municipality has initiated an ambitious program that will see a new Integrated Development Plan put in place.

Under the initiative, the municipality is hoping to review its boundaries so as to include new estates that have emerged and required the services of urban centres like sewerage system and piped water among others.

According to the Municipality Board chairman Julius Kitur, the plan will also help hasten the process of elevating Eldoret town to a city. Kitur revealed that conferment of a city status had been delayed due to the fact that currently, the Eldoret International Airport is not under the municipality.

“To be a city, we must have an airport and this is why we need to expand the parameters of the municipal boundaries to have it to be part of the Eldoret municipality. We have already met the other parameter of population because we have even overtaken Kisumu,” says the Eldoret municipality board chairman.

He also noted that the Municipality is congested and the Development Plan with help open it up.

Some of the key areas that will be considered when coming up with the development plan expect to be used for various projects in Eldoret town for the next 100 years include housing, environment, education, social amenities like hospitals, schools, religious places among others.

Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno says with the rising population and the ever-shrinking land size, it might require that future developers of residential estates focus on setting up high rise buildings.

“High-rise buildings for this town will be good because the residential areas will accommodate more people, it will create more space for social amenities like markets, schools, churches, among others,” Chemno said.

Currently, there are only a few residential estates in Eldoret town with high-rise buildings.

The Eldoret Municipality Integrated Development Plan is being worked on by the GeoDev Kenya Limited, a consultancy firm that won the tender. The firm is expected to engage locals and other stakeholders in collecting their views on what they wish to see Eldoret be in future.

How Women Can Protect Their Property Rights After Marriage

They say property has no gender, but history shows a different reality, where property ownership has favoured men. This inequality is still evident, especially when it comes to inheritance after the death of a spouse.  Even though Kenya’s 2010 Constitution guarantees equal rights for men and women, many women still struggle to secure their rights to property. So, how can women make sure their rights are respected after marriage? Baoriat Agencies explains six key ways to ensure fair property distribution in case of death or separation. 1. Registering Jointly Owned Property  When a couple buys property together, it’s important to register it under both names. This guarantees that the other automatically inherits the property if one partner dies. Make sure both names are clearly listed on the title deed as co-owners. 2. Joint Tenancy or Tenancy-in-Common There are two ways to share property: Joint tenancy : If one partner dies, the other automatically becomes the sole owner. Tenancy-in-co
