Eldoret is one of the fastest-growing towns in Kenya tipped to be elevated to a city status soon.
Aside from being the capital of Uasin Gishu County, Eldoret
is also considered a key economic hub for the entire North Rift region and
parts of Western Kenya – being a key transit town.
With its fast growth comes the rising demand for housing. If
you are planning to move to Eldoret town, here are some of the easily
accessible residential estates you should consider living in;
N/B distance measured from Oloo Street
Annex
Located about 7.9 kilometres from Eldoret CBD, Annex is one
of the estates that can be easily accessed due to its reliable public transport
that operates to as late as 12 midnight on a normal day – save for the current
situation that has led to curfew being imposed.
Road network in the area is also excellent, with the recent
construction of several tarmac roads – so if you have your own vehicle, be sure
you can access the estate even easier via the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway.
Most of those who live in Annex estate are students due to the availability of the Moi University School of Law.
Pioneer
This is an estate which is just a walking distance from
Eldoret town. Its road network is not that well developed but its closeness to
the CBD is a plus and makes it among the easily accessible estates you should
consider living in.
Pioneer estate is usually associated with both middle and
low-income earners.
Action
Action is another residential estate that is a stone throw
away from Eldoret town. It takes barely 20 minutes to walk to the estate, and
less than 10 minutes drive to access it via Oloo Street, in Eldoret town, then to
Kitale-Cherangani Road.
Despite being easily accessible, the estate does not have
tarmacked roads yet. A majority of those who live in the estate are college and
university students.
Kapsoya
This is one of the oldest and well-planned estates in Eldoret town. The estate is also easily accessible with reliable public transport and most of the roads are tarmacked.
It is located about 5.4 kilometres from Eldoret CBD if accessing it from Elgeyo Road. It takes about a 15 minutes’ drive to reach Kapsoya estate and if you decide to walk, it will take you about 30 to 40 minutes depending on your walking speed.
Elgon View
Elgon View estate has always been associated with the rich
in society, mainly political leaders, athletes, high-ranking public servants
and successful businesspersons. It is
located 5 kilometres from Eldoret CBD – which just about 11-minute drive via
Kisumu Road/Stendi Kisa – Yala Road.
There are no public vehicles plying through Elgon View estate but
if you have no private vehicle, you can access it using Tuk Tuks or Motorcycles
(bodaboda) that park opposite Nandi Park at the Kisumu Road round-about at as
low as Sh50 per trip.
West Indies
This is another oldest residential estate in Eldoret town.
Its name – West Indies, is associated to the original occupants of this estate
– Indians.
The estate is only five minutes away from the Eldoret CBD.
It still has a number of original Indian architecture houses that were built
back then alongside modern houses that have lately been cropping up.
Road network to the estate is good and although it has no
public transport vehicle, it can still be accessible using the Kipkaren-bound
matatus.
