5 Must Visit Places While In Eldoret Town

Eldoret is one of the popular towns in Kenya today. Its popularity is largely due to the fact that it is home to many athletes who have won international races and also the home town of the current Deputy President of Kenya, William Ruto.

Located about 323.5 kilometres from Nairobi, Eldoret town is also among the five highly populated urban centres in Kenya – also an economic hub for over 23 counties in the North Rift and parts of Kenya.

So are you planning to visit this amazing time anytime soon or you are already in the town, commonly referred to as ‘The City of Champions? Well, here are 5 places you must visit, in case you get a chance of setting foot in Eldoret.

1.     Champions Monument

With Eldoret town always associated with international athletes, this is the first place you need to visit.

The Champions Monument is situated at the junction of Kaptagat and Nairobi roads and was erected in honour of retired, elite and upcoming athletes in the country.

The bronze monument, erected by Mediheal Group of Hospitals, depicts two female athletes and two male athletes attached on a world map running towards different directions. One of the males is holding an Olympic torch in one hand while the rest have their hands raised up as a sign of victory. It also has an image of a male athlete mounted on the top draped in the Kenyan flag

2.    Rupa Mall

For those who have had a chance to visit major towns in Kenya like Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu, the existence of a mall is not a big deal, but for Eldoret, it is, because, Rupa Mall, is the only one of its kind in the town.

The mall is a popular spot among locals and has a number of social amenities like hotels, supermarkets, a cinema hall, and a children’s playing area among many others.

It might not be as big as Two-Rivers Mall in Nairobi, but if you are in Eldoret, be sure to visit it and you won’t regret it.

3.    Boma Inn

If you have never had a taste of what it is like to eat and be at a 5-star hotel, perhaps you need to make a visit at Boma Inn, located at the leafy suburb of Elgon View estate.

The hotel is usually associated with the affluent in society, and rightly so, because of its high cost of services which once in a while you should treat your body to it.

4.    Koromosho Falls

It is located some 25 kilometres away from Eldoret at a point where the River Sosiani plunges 70 meters from the plateau and over a granite escarpment.

Koromosho falls was also a site of the ancient practice of Sheu Morobi where very old members of the Nandi community would jump to their deaths for a variety of reasons including loneliness and so as not to burden the community

5.    Daima Towers

While in Eldoret CBD, it is very likely that you will see this building up there on the sky, it would be good is you had a good look at it one closer – this is why; the Moi University Pension Scheme Complex (Daima Towers) that was completed in 2016 stands at 89 meters featuring among the tallest in Kenya.

With 26 floors, Daima Towers is the 12th among the tallest buildings in Kenya.
