Where to Buy Land in Eldoret: New Road to Be Constructed Through Racecourse, Sugunanga Roads To Get Upgraded

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has initiated a project that will see a new road constructed from the Eldoret town Central Business District (CBD) through Testimony School and Boma inn hotel.

According to the County Executive Committee Member in Charge of Roads Eng. Gideon Birir, the road named after the late Eldoret Anglican Church of Kenya Diocese Bishop Alexander Muge will pass through Racecourse Estate.

The road, Eng Birir says, intends to act as a reliever of the airport road.

"When the road is complete, it will go through Kapkechui-Mark Too-Kapseret loop. This means there will be traffic using the road to the airport. We are taking precautions because we are projecting that there will be high traffic using the road in the future,” noted the CECM.

Eng Birir also revealed that they have initiated talks with Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) that will give guidelines for improvements on the design of the Eldoret Southern Bypass at the intersection point between one of the county roads that is intersecting with the bypass from Mariot Hotel through late Mark Too's farm to the Eldoret International Airport.

He says the talks are aimed at preventing future conflict between the traffic on the bypass and the local road users at the intersection point by putting into consideration non-motorized transport users and having proper flyovers for the local road users.

"Some of our recommendations in the talks include the design of a bridge that will avoid the two types of conflict. We are going to have more consultations with KENHA and the consultant supervising the project," said Eng. Birir.

The supervisor in charge of the project from Ama/Timcon/max and partners company Eng Joseph Gichuru said the changes are possible through consultation with all parties and availability of resources.

The CECM also said they are in consultation with the Kenya Power company and the National Government to relocate power lines in Sugunanga estate which have been hindering the implementation of the project.

This is because the power lines are in the middle of the road.

"We have done evaluation that is estimated to be Ksh3 million. Our initial survey and appraisal are to enable us to share the cost between Kenya Power and the County Government," said Eng. Birir.

The department of Roads has had a major challenge to improve roads in the estate since 2013.
