Eldoret Municipality to Develop New Transport Plan for Eldoret Town

The Eldoret Municipality has initiated talks with the Uasin Gishu County Executive over the establishment of a clear transport plan for the Eldoret town.

The initiative is part of the Eldoret Urban Economic Plan being jointly developed by the Eldoret Municipality and the Sustainable Urban Economic Development (SUED) – an organization funded by the United Kingdom (UK) through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

Speaking during a meeting with SUED team, Uasin Gishu County Physical Planning and Urban Development Chief Officer Kenneth Mbeka said under the plan, infrastructure and transport development will be given priority.

“Eldoret is a key player in the growth of the economy in Kenya. We are centrally placed as a town that has direct flights to all the cities in the country and currently, international cargo lands here before being transported via road to the rest of the country,” Mbeka said.

“We are in discussions with the county leadership to find solutions to the congestion of the Central Business District (CBD). This is where we need to involve SUED in the making of the city’s master plan,” he added.

Similar sentiments were shared by Eldoret Municipality Manager Tito Koiyet who noted that Eldoret is well placed and once it attains a city status, it will attract more investors in among other key sectors such as hotel and tourism industry (hotels, and conference facilities) as well as create a demand for road linkages, expanding airlines to international spaces – especially in Europe.

Today, Eldoret remains among the top towns to invest in main sectors such as real estates.

A 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census ranked it as the fifth most populated urban area in Kenya – after Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru and Ruiru. It was also the fastest-growing town in the country with a population of 475,716.

How Women Can Protect Their Property Rights After Marriage

They say property has no gender, but history shows a different reality, where property ownership has favoured men. This inequality is still evident, especially when it comes to inheritance after the death of a spouse.  Even though Kenya’s 2010 Constitution guarantees equal rights for men and women, many women still struggle to secure their rights to property. So, how can women make sure their rights are respected after marriage? Baoriat Agencies explains six key ways to ensure fair property distribution in case of death or separation. 1. Registering Jointly Owned Property  When a couple buys property together, it’s important to register it under both names. This guarantees that the other automatically inherits the property if one partner dies. Make sure both names are clearly listed on the title deed as co-owners. 2. Joint Tenancy or Tenancy-in-Common There are two ways to share property: Joint tenancy : If one partner dies, the other automatically becomes the sole owner. Tena...
