HOW TO MAKE MORE PROFIT AS A POULTRY FARMER IN KENYA

Poultry farming is one of the lucrative farming businesses we have in Kenya. Every poultry farmer would wish to make more profit in terms of good cash. We as the Baoriat Agencies will guide you through your successful journey of poultry farming. Breed choice and the market type are two major underlying factors that will help any poultry farmer make more profit than before.

Breed type.

In Kenya, we have various breeding types of chicken namely; Rainbow rooster, Kenbro, Kuroiler and KARI improved kienyeji. When it comes to breed type, always opt for the birds with high egg production and has low feed consumption.

KARI improved Kienyeji Chicken are the best breed because they exhibit desirable characteristics such as resistance to diseases, mature very fast as compared to other breed type, have the sweetest meat and also they produce eggs of high quality. They also require an average of 50 grams of feed per day hence, saves the farmer a lot of money used to buy the chicks feeds.

Market.

Once you choose a product, you must have a market in mind. Depending on the market you are going to venture in, that is what will determine how much profit you are going to make. If you opt for retail business, your margin is likely to be much higher compared to the person who'll go for wholesale.

Most people would argue that it is better to sell their products wholesale so as to dispose off the product easily. Unfortunately, that is not the case. You can still dispose the product as long as you have a wider pool of retail people and all you have to do is just to market more than a wholesaler. Remember that Poultry farming is a business just like any other. Therefore, always go for options that are more profitable.

How much does a poultry farmer really  make?

Start with a pre-distinct number of birds. For instance 100 chicks of KARI improved Kienyeji breed. It will cost you Ksh. 10,000 with one chick costing a hundred shillings each. Critical thing here is how you feed your chicks for four and a half months so as they are ready for meat. Each chick consumes about 15 grams of feeds and 85 grams for a grown chick. Averagely, a bird consumes about 50 grams of feed daily. For the four and a half months, the will consume an average of 335 grams of feeds.

Other things your birds need apart from just feeds include; clean water, labor, right vaccination, supplements (Multi-vitamins) and medication (eg; antibiotics and disinfectants) .

At the age of four and a half months, you need to dispose off all the cockerels. Lets say you sell each Cockerel at ksh 1,000. So this will accumulate to (50 cockerels x 1000/-) = 50,000/-
At the same period of time your female chicks would have have started laying eggs. Each hen giving you an average of 32 eggs per day. When you multiply this by 12 months  it accumulate to 12,520 eggs in annually. When you decide to sell the eggs in retail with each egg at 15/-, it will give you an average of (12,520 eggs x ksh.15) = 54,432/-. After one year, you can decide to sell all the hens at approximately ksh.850 each giving you a total of 42,500/-

At the end of the year cumulatively, you'll make 50,000 + 54,432 + 42,500 = Ksh. 146,932. Lets say that all the expenses you used took you about 40,000/-, therefore, we take the total amount of money subtract 40,000 from it in order to get your profit.(146,000 - 40,000) =Ksh. 106,932.

Game changer.

Do not sell all your eggs for consumption because there is a better option which is fertilized eggs. Fertilized eggs can be sold for the purposes of hatching chicks. The prices of such eggs are relatively higher than the ones sold just for consumption. You can sell each egg at ksh.33(1000/- per tray). It's much profitable compared to eggs sold for consumption (450 /- per tray). As a Poultry farmer enterprenuer, you need to decide to tap into that market and make more profit.

Finally, you can secure yourself a land suitable for poultry farming in Uasin Gishu County and its neighbouring sister county like; Transnzoia, Baringo, Kakamega and Elgeyo Marakwet. It's relatively simple, just contact Baoriat Agencies for the greatest deals.

WHAT ARE TITLE DEEDS

First of all we want to know what exactly is a title deed? A Title Deed according to the dictionary is  a legal deed or document constituting evidence of a right, especially to ownership of property. That means that for one to have claim on a piece of the land, he / she must have a title deed written in his/ her name.  When looking to invest in a piece of land, the first thing you will need to do as a buyer is to conduct an official title deed search at the local land registry. This is often done in the county office in which the land is located. In Kenya there existed different types of title deeds as per the different types of land Acts that have been in existence from colonial times up to the post-independence era.
